New Potential Elder Abuse Issue

Randall, Page & Bruch, P.C.

On July 16, 2015, the Virginian Pilot reported that there has been an increase in potential elder abuse related to nursing home use of the drug Coumadin. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Coumadin is a “prescription medicine used to treat blood clots and to lower the chance of blood clots forming in your body.” The problem, according to the article, is not the drug itself but its administration by nursing home staff. Too little or too much of the drug can create unnecessary risks to senior citizens. The article chronicles several elder citizens who suffered injuries or death as a result of inappropriate dosage of the medicine to residents. If you suspect that your family member may be the subject of elder abuse in a nursing home, contact the experienced attorneys of Randall, Page & Bruch, P.C.
