35-year old Leon Jerome Hayes has been found guilty of participating in the murder of furniture store owner Donald Carter Sr., of Suffolk, VA, who was shot dead outside his shop in the early hours of Sept. 22, 2014.

The jury has recommended a sentence of 59 years for Hayes, who was the third defendant in the case. The other two, Katron Shawndell Walker and Naomi Nichelle Lambert, are already serving prison sentences of 62 years and 22 years, respectively.

The jury deliberated for around six hours before making the recommendation. Hayes had been on the wrong side of the law before, being convicted for grand larceny at the age of 13 and as an adult for unlawful wounding and domestic assault.
